Lure Coursing at Goldstock

The lure course is new and improved this year! It's going to be similar to an AKC/UKC style course in the open soccer field with no obstacles and gentle turns. The first straightaway will be timed (similar to a FAST CAT), and then the dogs will run a large oval-shaped course around the field so that you can catch them at the same place where they were released.

Location is at the soccer field below the track and behind the silent auction building— same place as last year. Even if your dogs don't run, please stop by-- it's great fun to watch!

For those of you who haven't tried lure coursing yet, it's a fun dog sport where your dog chases a lure on a motorized pulley system around a field, tracking the lure through turns and straightaways. Greg and Paula do UKC trials and AKC club fun runs, so this is a great way to introduce your dog to the sport-- or just have fun! If you need help with catching or releasing your dog like I do, there's always help around to do that.

The runs will be timed this year, which adds something new-- awards! The awards ceremony with rosettes will be held Sunday at the course before dinner at 5:00pm, with awards for fastest dog in each size division (puppy, under 25, 50 and under, over 50, over 100), slowest dog, and some other fun categories, so don't miss it if your dog runs.

Please make sure to keep your dogs leashed when near the field for their safety and the safety of the dogs running. Puppies may run the straightaway with no turns to avoid stressing them.

Schedule and fees are as follows. Times are approximate, if there are still dogs in line, the course won't close until all dogs are through.

Make Your Own Sundae Ice Cream at Goldstock

This year, I thought I would bring a little cool fun to Goldstock. Who would enjoy an ice cream sundae social? I've done this many times over the years and it's always a huge success, and lots of fun, so with Gail's blessing, we will have a "Make Your Own Sundae" ice cream social at Goldstock!

I will be bringing a few different kinds of ice cream with me to camp (in large tubs of course), and all of the toppings for the sundaes. It will be 3 scoops of ice cream for $5 and you can top them with anything you want. I will provide all of the toppings as well. All of the proceeds will be divided between all of the rescues at Goldstock. I'm scheduling it for Saturday evening after dinner. I am still working out the details as to where I can set up. Hoping for inside the dining hall.

Ice cream choices will be basic...chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and rainbow sherbet (for those who just want to cool off and not add too many toppings).

Toppings will include peanuts, walnuts, rainbow sprinkles, heath bar crunch topping, chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, strawberry sauce, peanut butter sauce and butterscotch sauce, if I can find it, and anything else I can find to throw in as a surprise. And what's a sundae without whipped cream and a cherry on top?

I will have bowls, napkins and spoons too, and all nut products will be organized away from everything else so as not to cross contaminate for those with nut allergies.

So, there it is. Everyone say.... ICE CREEEEEEEAAMMMMM!!!!!!

2019 Goldstock Olympics

The course can be done on or off leash. No crawling necessary. Just a fun walk with your dog through the course with a Fiesta Theme. Of course you need to do this with a tennis ball on a spoon at the same time. You can do it. Back by popular demand as it was a ton of fun.

Dogs and handlers face each other in a circle. You put your dog in a sit and stay and the winners are the last three dogs sitting. There will be gradual distractions as the game continues so start practicing that sit stay. No bribes will be accepted this year. It’s true skill of obedience. Let the best dog win, and the best dog be out first.

After all that’s what goldens do, they run and retrieve. Axl and Rocky want you to know that Cows retrieve too; well at least they steal and run. You will need two humans to play this game so recruit a friend or we will find one for you no worries.

This event will replace the Righteous Retriever event if we need to move indoors. SHHH No rain.

Dress your dog in an amazing costume or just a fun bandana as we judge from behind. That’s the walking view. The Sassy Walk will also be the only event this year that accepts bribes. Yes, your dog can gain “Style” points with Benjamins, lincolns, and even Franklins attached to their collar.

Water Events

Where we will have three classes. Puppies, Seniors, and Open. It’s a fast race for the tennis ball. The dog must bring the ball back to the handler. Balls cannot be dropped in the water and the handler go get it. If the ball is dropped it is free game for another dog.

This should be fun to watch this year as we have some real flyers and some very good floppers. All are welcome. The judges might come up with some special awards in this area for style of dive, but it’s going to be a game of skill this year as no bribes for extra inches allowed. This is a true competition of fun.

Let the GAMES begin. Entries remain the same $7.00 per event, $30.00 for all five events. Sign up will be at Breakfast and Dinner Meals, Look for the sign at a table in the mess hall that says.

Remember It’s all about having fun and raising money for rescue.
